Civility Please!!

Dear friends who keep posting scurrilous messages denigrating the President of the United States: please stop. The office of the Presidency ought always to be respected, regardless of opinions about actions in office. Mean-spirited assertions are beneath us. This divisiveness tears down instead of building up. The angels sang, "Peace on earth to men of good will." Mitt Romney pointed out at the Al Smith Dinner that in this country we can oppose one another and still have good will. If you support him, follow his example. The diverse political parties in our country are not enemies; for democracy to flourish, there must be opposing opinions. Without respect and civility, we allow a damning influence to tear us apart, which makes all we desire for our country nearly impossible to accomplish. Jesus Christ said that a house divided against itself cannot stand. Why are we permitting that to happen? Now - lest you assume you know my politics: you haven't seen the letter I am composing to NPR! References: Phillipians 2:1-18
