Wonderful thing for Friday, 23 January: My husband. Sometimes it's a little intimidating to be the companion of such a focused, dedicated, committed servant of the Lord! He does everything with an eye single to the glory of God, all the time. I have to remind myself that we have different focuses, gifts and talents. He tells me I'm the best companion ever, so I guess I'll have to believe him. The thing that made me marvel yesterday was one of those "simple" things: The sister missionaries' taparelle (the wooden blinds that come down over doors) needed some repair. To do this he had to stand on their table, open the casing above the door, and work with his arms at an uncomfortable angle. He was at it for about an hour. This is a man who has had two back surgeries, who deals with great pain when he has to stand in one place for longer than 5 or 10 minutes. Other than taking one break, he stuck at it till it was done, making light-hearted comments the whole time, keeping us chuckling. He's just in it for the long run, willing to undergo whatever the situation requires. I marvel. We struggled a lot in our married life; I thank God for holding on to us as we held on to each other. Now we are enjoying the fruits, and the taste is sweet indeed.
Fun thing: The GANS had a welcome home festa for Elton last night. We brought Just Dance - Lorena dances just like she does everything else, high energy and wholehearted. What fun! It was also great to talk with Elton and with Simone Bagni, Lorena's brother-in-law, about their missions and to get to know them a little.
